Mayor Rochefort commented on the success of the Volunteer Recognition Event earlier today. Council members attended the AMO Conference last month and were impressed with the information provided at the event.

Councillor Champagne advised Groulx Road will be closed from September 18th through 21st for the emergency replacement of a large culvert.

    WHEREAS the Fire and Emergency Services Committee reviewed a draft fireworks by-law at their August 16th, 2023 Committee meeting;

    AND WHEREAS the Committee recommends to Council that the by-law to regulate the setting off of fireworks in the municipality be approved;

    BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that Council approves of this recommendation.

    THAT Council for the Municipality of East Ferris directs staff to obtain an Opinion of Value from a real estate agent for the lands as shown on Schedule D of Report No. PLAN-2023-07, lots 1 and 2; 

    AND THAT this item be deferred and brought back to Council once the Opinion of Value has been obtained.

    THAT Council for the Municipality of East Ferris accepts the recommendation from the Municipal Engineer contained in Report No. R-2023-09 and approve that Tender EF-2023-08 for a Thin Concrete Overlay in the amount of $129,267.25 including H.S.T. be awarded to Labonté Concrete Ltd. for the Corbeil Outside Rink.

    THAT Council for the Municipality of East Ferris accepts the recommendation from the Municipal Engineer contained in Report No. R-2023-10 and approve that Tender EF-2023-09 for a New Dasher Board System in the amount of $130,695.80 including H.S.T. be awarded to Athletica Sport Systems for the Corbeil Outside Rink.

    THAT the Council for the Municipality of East Ferris supports the Town of Woodstock's resolution regarding Homelessness and the Opioid Crisis.

    WHEREAS Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from September 18 to 24, 2023;

    AND WHEREAS, 232 railway crossing and trespassing incidents occurred in Canada in 2022; resulting in 66 avoidable fatalities and 43 avoidable serious injuries;

    AND WHEREAS, educating and informing the public about rail safety (reminding the public that railway rights-of-way are private property, enhancing public awareness of the dangers associated with highway rail grade crossings, ensuring pedestrians and motorists are looking and listening while near railways, and obeying established traffic laws) will reduce the number of avoidable fatalities and injuries cause by incidents involving trains and citizens; 

    AND WHEREAS Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the public, rail industry, governments, police services, media and others to raise rail safety awareness;

    AND WHEREAS CN has requested that Council for the Municipality of East Ferris adopt this resolution in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality;

    BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that Council for the Municipality of East Ferris support national Rail Safety Week to be held from September 18 to 24, 2023.

    • a position, plan, procedure, criteria or instruction to be applied to any negotiations carried on or to be carried on by or on behalf of the municipality or local board relating to the Lavigne Road Quarry.
