    WHEREAS as Canadians and residents of East Ferris collectively support public health measures to combat the spread of Covid-19, an unintended consequence has been that our physical activity levels have sustained significant declines according to ParticipACTION’s 2020 Report Card;

    AND WHEREAS ParticipACTION further reveals that this effect has been especially pronounced on children and youth, with less than 1 in 5 children (5-11 year-olds) and youth (12-17) in Canada meeting national movement behaviour guidelines for physical activity given restricted access to playgrounds, physical school, childcare and play dates;

    AND WHEREAS Canadian communities and families can be active role models and provide the kind of encouragement our kids need to reclaim their pre-COVID level of activity;

    AND WHEREAS East Ferris has previously demonstrated its ability to be a role model when it finished 3rd in Canada and 2nd in Ontario in the 2019 ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge;

    THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Municipality of East Ferris declares the month of June as ParticipACTION month in East Ferris and it will lead by example from June 1st to June 30th in encouraging Team East Ferris be active and healthy.
